AL-AWDA ACTION ALERT

CONDEMN ISRAEL'S BOMBING OF CIVILIANS
DEMAND US TERMINATE ALL AID TO ISRAEL IMMEDIATELY

May 19, 2001 - Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition condemns Israel's attacks on Palestinian civilians and calls on its members, supporters and all people and organizations of conscience to demand that the US terminate all aid to Israel immediately. The most recent attacks on unarmed Palestinian civilians using American supplied F-16S fighter aircraft in addition to Apache helicopter gun ships left at least thirteen dead and many more wounded. These bombings mark a serious escalation of Israel's brutal occupation and aggression policies. The clear aim is to force Palestinians to accept to live under perpetual occupation and apartheid policies. Involving the American people in funding Israeli abuses of international law and human rights is unacceptable and contrary to the Arms Export Control Act of 1976 and the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 adopted by Congress. Annually, Israel receives more than $3 billion in US taxpayer dollars.

The following are the names of the 13 martyrs identified so far to have been killed in the aerial bombing yesterday:

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED:

Contact the President, the State Department and Congress to express your outrage at this escalation of Israeli attacks on civilians and to ask that US tax dollars stop funding this aggression.

TALKING POINTS:

* Condemn Israel's attacks on civilians using American weapons and demand that the US cut off its $3 billion in annual aid to Israel immediately.  These US tax-payer dollars are being used to suppress the Palestinian struggle for liberation from occupation. The U.S. must not fund Israel's brutal military repression.

* Involving the American people in funding Israeli abuses of international law and human rights is unacceptable. It is also contrary to the Arms Export Control Act of 1976 and the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 adopted by Congress. Israeli attacks on civilians are a gross misuse of U.S. military and economic aid.

* The U.S. should cease delivery of all armaments and military and economic aid to Israel immediately.
