24 families in Al Midieh village south of Ramallah received demolition orders for their homes under the pretext of building without permits. 18 of the houses are located next to the "Green Line" and Israelis claim these houses must be evacuated.
In 1986, Israel drew what is known as the "Green Line". Israeli Forces confiscated land in Al Midieh land and uprooted nearly 3000 olive trees claiming that they became inside the borders of Israel. The Israeli court issued a court order preventing the Israeli army from implementing any demolition of Al Midieh houses in 1986 because the owners have building permits from "Bet El"[The Israeli military administration of the occupied Palestinian Territory], and since that date, no new houses have been built. 1000 Palestinians live in Al Midieh, a small village 27 kilometers south of Ramallah District, now situated geographically next to the "Green Line".
Ragheb Al Abed, head of the Al Midieh village council, said "the Israeli claim is false and its aim is to confiscate more land for the settlement expansion. One of the houses was built before 1948, before Israel was founded, and the rest were built between 1970 and 1980. The owners of the houses have building permits and possession papers to their homes and land plots."
" If the demolition order will be implemented after one month, the date for demolishing the houses, 36 families, consisting of 350 persons, will become homeless. We are willing to go to the Supreme Court with the help of the Jerusalem Legal Aid & Human Rights Center to issue another order to stop the demolition process." Al Abed said.
Mustafa Abdel Hafez, owner of one of the houses, said that he and the rest of the owners would do their utmost to prevent the demolition of their houses.
On July 9, 17 houses were demolished in Shufa't refugee camp near Jerusalem out of 25 houses that received demolition and evacuation orders. In less than 24 hours of issuing the demolition orders, the houses were demolished leaving 300 persons homeless.
On July 11, 19 houses and 9 stores were demolished in Rafah leaving 30 families homeless.
